
The government has slotxo confirmed the £20-per-week boost to universal credit will be "phased out" in the autumn.
The decision comes despite opposition to the cut from both opposition and some Conservative MPs.
Who has benefited from the universal credit changes?
Universal credit is claimed by more than 5.5 million households across the UK.
The payment was increased by £20 a week in April 2020, to help struggling families during the pandemic.
It had been due to end on 31 March and the government came under pressure to announce an extension. In his March Budget Chancellor Rishi Sunak that the £20 a week would be extended for a further six months.
What will happen in the autumn?
Speaking to MPs on 7 July, Work and Pensions Secretary Therese Coffey confirmed the increase would end in the autumn.
"Ahead of October we will start communicating with the current claimants who receive the £20 to make them aware that it will be phased out and they will start to see an adjustment in their payments."
The changes will "largely" happen in October, but for some people the change will happen in late September, Ms Coffey added.
